How do you find the right monitor mount for your TV / monitor?

How do you find the right monitor mount for your TV / monitor?

1. Assemble the basic data Monitor / TV

Some information of the screen are required for the fitting to the monitor mount.

  • Size and weight of the screen
The inch size of the monitor and its weight are crucial for the holder. If you do not know the inch size, you can easily find out. Measure the screen from bottom left to top right (only glass, not the case). Divide the result by 2.54 (1 inch = 2.54cm). Round the result and you have the inch size of the screen. The weight can be found either in the data sheet or on the website of the manufacturer (as well as the inch size), or you simply place the monitor on a scale. Write down inch size and weight.

  • VESA standard of the screen
The VESA standard is a standard for fixing screens for example on mountings. If you do not know your VESA standard, turn your screen over so you can see the back side. There you will find mostly four threaded holes. Measure the horizontal and vertical hole distances from center to center. The result is your VESA recording. If your monitor does not have VESA recording, you may consider using a VESA adapter. Note down your VESA measurement.

2. Requirements for the mounts

There are a variety of monitor mounts available on the market. Consider which desires and requirements you have about the monitor mount.

  • 2.1 Where should the bracket be fixed?
The future position of the monitor holder is mostly already defined (wall, ceiling, floor, table, roof slope, traverse), but the place of installation should be checked again. For a wall mount, for example, you have to check the carrying capacity of the wall and / or the run of the electric cables.

  • 2.2 How should the mount be fixed?
Some mounting locations have several types of mounting. For example at a desk the mount can be attached with a table clamp, a through desk solution or a pedestal. For walls you can choose between wall mounts which will be screwed into the wall and mounts without drilling.

  • 2.3 How flexible should the bracket be?
Depending on the location and purpose of use vary the requirements for the mobility of the holder. A distinction is made in rotatable (rotating the monitor), height-adjustable (monitor can be adjusted in height, for example, on a column), tiltable (monitor can be easily tilted to ergonomic orientation of the monitor) and swivelable (bracket has a swivel arm, which can be moved individually). In addition, motorized / electrical brackets are available. If the monitor supports the pivot function, it can be rotated from landscape to portrait and the contents rotate with it.

  • 2.4 Which color should the mount have?
The future monitor holder should fit with the interior if elements of the bracket (such as a swivel arm or pedestal) are later visible. Think in advance which color would be best for you.

3. Find the suitable mount

With the collected details of your monitor (inch size, weight, VESA) as well as your desires to the holder you can go now to the search of your monitor mount. When you choose a mounting take care that the holder can carry the weight of your monitor and that VESA standard fits. If the VESA standard deviates, a VESA adapter may be considered.
